VICTIM OF CHIMP ATTACK WANTS FACE TRANSPLANT

TRAVIS AND OWNER
BEFORE AND AFTER
IT was a horror show. The world was stunned when a one-time TV star chimpanzee named Travis tore  the face off of Charla Nash of Connecticut while drunk and agitated. Now, with recent medical advances, Nash, 57, hopes to get a face transplant too, according to the Boston Herald.
“Yesterday’s news is good because more people now realize that becoming a face donor requires additional steps beyond checking off a box on your driver’s license,” said John Orr, a
spokesman for Nash, of the successful full face transplant that a Fort Worth, Tex. man underwent yesterday.
The horrifically disfigured Nash was attacked by her friend's pet chimpanzee Travis in February 2009. The chimp was then shot to death by a local cop. And as the cop wisely pointed out later: "chimpanzees should be in the jungle, not drinking wine and hammering Xanax."
Now, Nash needs for the body of a 50-something female organ donor with her blood type and skin tone must become available, usually as a result of a terrible accident or some other untimely death.
A compatible donation could make Nash, who tops the list at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the nation’s first woman to receive a full face transplant.
“She’s very excited, and she’s really happy about how well things went for Dallas Wiens,” Orr said.
