COURT KEEPS KILLER CHRISTA PIKE ON DEATH ROW

A TENNESSEE appeals court has shot down convicted killer Christa Gail Pike's efforts to have her death sentence overturned. The court ruled that Pike--at one time the youngest American woman on death row--failed to show her defence team botched the 1996 murder trial or save her from the death penalty. Pike murdered love rival Colleen Slemmer in January 1995 when she showed an interest in the curly-haired killer's 17-year-old beau, Tadaryl Shipp. They and another woman lured Slemmer to a remote spot on the campus of the University of Tennessee and sliced her hundreds of times with box cutters and a meat cleaver before finally, they bludgeoned her death with a rock.
For good measure a pentagram was carved into her chest and the macabre Pike carved a piece of Slemmer's skull as a souvenir. We've interviewed Christa
Pike, and as Quint said in Jaws: "Sometimes that shark he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. And, you know, the thing about a shark... he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes."
