A TRAGIC mother drove her minivan into the murky waters of the Hudson river, killing herself and three of her children. However, one of Lashandra Armstrong's sons — 10-year-old Lashaun — managed to escape by slipping out of the van before it sank below the waves.
After pushing out the window the terrified boy swam back to the shore. Mavis Ryan, a passerby, found the soaking wet, shivering boy and took him to firefighters, authorities said. His younger sister Lainna and brother Lance weren't so lucky. Ryan told WCBS: “I don’t know what state of mind she
could have been in to do that to her children.”
Cops believe Amrstrong, 25, drove into the murky depths after what cops believe was a domestic dispute as they were responding to a call at her home, when she was driving into the river's raging torrents near Newburgh, NY.
"We are talking about a tragedy in this city that is probably second to none," the town's Mayor Nicholas Valentine said.
"The whole scene surrounding what occurred in Newburgh last night will have a lasting effect on this city."
