MEX COPS BUST SUSPECT IN US AGENT'S '09 SLAYING

MEXICAN COPS have arrested the man suspected of killing a U.S. Border Patrol agent near San Diego last year. According to cops, Marcos Manuel Rodriguez Perez, 26, was arrested as he drove through Tijuana Monday morning, on a tip from the FBI. Perez has long bees suspected of killing Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas, who was murdered in a botched robbery in July 2009.

The area is also a heavily worn route for drugs and the smuggling of illegal immigrants.
Rosas, 30, was shot eight times in the head, neck and torso while on solo patrol in a remote mountainous area about 60 miles east of San Diego. He was lured from his car and shot in the back. Rosas' body was discovered about 100 yards from the border. His engine was running and the headlights still on. Christian Daniel Castro Alvarez, 16, pleaded guilty to murder for his role in the killing and was sentenced last April to 40 years in prison. 
Tony Duarte, a close friend and fellow agent, said Rosas was such a familiar face that people called him the mayor.
"Robert knew everyone in El Centro, and when I say everyone, I mean everyone," he said.
