MARNI YANG TRIAL: LOVE RIVAL TRIED TO SHIELD FETUS

PROTECTIVE MOM
CRAZY?
MAD Marni Yang's defense attorney's wrapped up their case in just half-an-hour yesterday but only after the jury heard that her alleged victim had desperately tried to shield her unborn daughter.
Dr. Manny Montez, the forensic pathologist who conducted Reuter’s autopsy said that as she was shot Rhoni Reuter, the pregnant girlfriend of former Chicago Bear Shaun Gayle, had wrapped her left arm around her abdomen in an apparent effort to protect the baby.
He said: “The arm is covering the abdomen in a protective manner."
Reuter who was nearly seven months pregnant when she was struck by six bullets, including one that lodged in her left forearm — an injury Montez said was a “defensive wound.”
Yang, who prosecutors assert killed Reuter out of jealousy over Reuter's relationship chose not to take the stand in her defense as the case wrapped up.
Instead her defense attorneys called only three witnesses, her mother, Reuter's neighbor and a police officer.
Her neighbour testified that she didn’t hear any gunshots on the morning Reuter was shot to death inside her Deerfield condominium.
Yang’s attorneys also submitted several other pieces of evidence, including offering an unidentified fingerprint found on Reuter’s doorknob that doesn’t match Yang’s prints.
Gayle, who testified during the trial that he had sex with Yang the night before the murder, likely will be present in the Waukegan courtroom for closing arguments, said his attorney, Donna Rotunno.
The trial continues.
