"SATAN HIMSELF" |
AERIAL, HIGHTOWER, HARVEY |
Baby faced assassin Alexander Alfaro, now 20, was just 16 when as part of a six member Ms-13 street gang he launched a vicious attack on Dashon Harvey, Terrance Aeriel and Iofemi Hightower who were shot to death in Newark, NJ.
The fourth victim, Natasha Aeriel, was wounded by a vicious blow with a machete from Alfaro but astonishingly she survived the August 2007 attack in Newark, NJ. "The force the defendant used to hack her skull was so strong that the blade was embedded in her skull," Judge Michael Ravin said while pretending to tug on an imaginary machete.
"He then had to pry the blade out."
Pounding his fist on his desk he told Alfaro that given the nature of the crime, he 'would never see the light of day' again outside of a prison.
"The barbarity of this crime merits paramount weight," he told his Essex County Superior Court. "Absolute, crushing weight."
Then he jailed him for more than 200 years.
At the sentencing, several of the victims' family members addressed Alfaro directly, including Hightower's mother Shalga, who said seeing Alfaro was like 'looking at the face of Satan himself'.
"You're not fooling anyone with your innocent looking mask," she said, answering his claims that he was himself a victim of gang violence.
Underneath, you are a monster. You are an evil person and a cold blooded killer that has shown no compassion for what you have done."
Alfaro was the second man to stand trial in the case. His half-brother, Rodolfo Godinez and a third man, Melvin Jovel, are already serving life terms after pleading guilty to the murders.
Three other men charged in the case await trial.
