TERROR boss Osama Bin Laden was buried at sea to prevent him a shrine being built to inspire future suicide bombers.
Officials revealed that the mastermind behind the 9/11 was given a traditional Muslim ceremony before his body was sent into the waves.
A state department insider said: "There will be no shrine, no tomb, no place for disaffected Muslim people to go and pay homage to this killer. We didn't want any fanfare made about his final resting place.
"So we thought it was best to bury him at sea. The location will remain
secret."
Americans have reacted with joy at the death of the Al Qaida leader, with people gathering at ground zero, Time Square and the White House.
Former leader George Bush was also delighted with the news.
He said: "This momentous achievement marks a victory for America, for people who seek peace around the world, and for all those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001.
"The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done. "
