LIFE SAVER |
Jose Baez said "there are no winners" in the case of two-year-old Caylee Anthony, whose dumped, decomposing body was found near the Anthony home, but insisted his client was innocent. Astonishingly he added: "The best feeling that I have today [is] I know when I go home my daughter will ask me what did you do
today? And I can say I saved a life.
"Caylee has passed on far, far too soon and what my driving force has been for the last three years has been always to make sure there is justice for Caylee and Casey because Casey did not murder Caylee.
"It is that simple. And today, our system of justice has not dishonored her memory by a false conviction."
The acquittal, marked the end of an amazing rise for the formerly unknown legal eagle which court tapes revealed, Anthony had chose at random.
Despite graduating from law school in 1997, the 42-year-old Navy veteran was only admitted to the Florida Bar in 2005 because he refused to pay child support to his former wife or secure life and health insurance for his teenage daughter.
Having previously declared himself bankrupt and defaulted on loans, according to an order by the Supreme Court of Florida, he was refused admission to the bar for eight years.
In their ruling they wrote the financial marks on his name showed: "A lack of respect for the rights of others and a total lack of respect for the legal system, which is absolutely inconsistent with the character and fitness qualities required of those seeking to be afforded the highest position of trust and confidence recognised by our system of law."
During this time he worked for two bikini businesses.
According to reports his home was still in foreclosure last year and given that Casey has less than $100 in her account, she will be unable to pay him until she receives money from media appearances or a book deal.
Still, given this amazing verdict Baez will likely be in great demand in future, meaning his money woes will be well behind him.
