REMEMBER this idiot dad who tried to throw his seven-year-old son off a sightseeing boat because he was crying, which we reported here.
Well instead of being embarrassed or a least a little humbled by the experience, he has insisted that he didn't do anything wrong - in fact he's joking about the whole thing.
The 35-year-old told KTLA: "Yeah I was trying to kill my son. No of course I was not trying to kill my son. We were playing in the shallows.
"We were just screwing around, just horse playing. We jumped in together and thought it would be funny."
But his claims fly in the face of at least 80 fellow passengers who said that Briles was drunkenly arguing with the boy, hitting him, before tossing him over the side.
Sheriff's office spokesman Jim Amormino who said that people told them that they overheard Stiles telling the boy: "If you don't stop crying, I'm going to throw you overboard."
He added: "And he hits the kid a couple of times," Amormino said. "The boy is crying. He picks him up and throws him overboard. They are in the middle of a harbor, and there is a lot of boat traffic."
He explained that the boy's life was endangered several ways.
Amormino said: "The main one was throwing him off the front of the boat because the boat could run over him. There was the danger of him being hit by the prop.
"And the other danger is that because there are so many boats out there, it's no place to swim, and because he's so small, the other boats wouldn't have seen him."
Briles, has been charged with felony child endangerment and resisting arrest, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.
He was released Monday in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
