FOR ALMOST 50 years, notorious Onion Field killer Gregory Powell has rotted in a California prison for the notorious execution-style murder of an LA cop. Now, the ancient killer--suffering from prostate cancer-- wants out. And for the 12th time, the onetime resident of death row was shot down. The case was written about by the legendary Joseph Wambaugh and made
into a movie, with James Woods playing the role of Powell. Powell said of his latest try for freedom : "I've done enough time. I'm a different man and I'm ready to be paroled."
