THE PISTOL |
QUICK THINKER |
NYPD Sgt Michael Miller had pulled over a livery cab after he noticed it speeding through Manhattan with Officer William Reddin.
But as they approached the car, Miller, a 13-year veteran noticed one of the passengers, Eugene Graves, making suspicious movements near his waistband.
After making the passengers get out of the car, he reached towards the bulge in Graves waist and felt the pistol underneath his clothes.
A police source told The Post: “He told him to put his hands behind him, and that’s when he started to fight."
Somehow he managed to press his Taurus .38 revolver into Miller’s stomach, but the experienced officer grabbed hold of the weapob, wedging his right ring finger between the gun’s hammer and cylinder, before the murderous Graves could fire a shot.
The source added: “This guy pulled the trigger so many times he broke the sergeant’s finger.”As Reddin ran round to help Graves’ backseat confederate took off and within moments, uniformed police officers arrived within moments and helped to subdue the still struggling Graves.
He was also found to be in possession of about two ounces of crack, according to a police source.
Graves has been charged with attempted murder of a police officer, assaulting a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance, menacing, and resisting arrest.
Miller meanwhile, was taken to Wyckoff Hospital, where he received treatment for his broken finger.
