JURY WANTS DEATH FOR DELAWARE COP KILLER

SPICER AND DAUGHTER
DEATH
A JURY wants a Delaware cop killer to get the needle. The jury deliberated for two hours before recommending that Derrick Powell, 24, of Cumberland, Maryland take the journey on the gurney. Powell shot to death Patrolman Chad Spicer in his police cruiser in 2009. Powell and two other suspects were fleeing a drug heist gone awry. Cops say Powell shot at a drug dealer he was trying to rob outside a fast food restaurant. Defence said he shouldn't be executed because he is brain-damaged and the "victim of chronic child abuse."

Outside court, a van driver yelled: “You should hang him.”

Spicer’s mother, Ruth Ann Spicer told reporters: “We’re just satisfied knowing justice was served,” she said. “I don’t think the word is closure; we will never be the same.”
A judge will decide May 20 whether Powell will make the trip to oblivion.
