BAFFLED COPS SEARCH |
Officers remained tight lipped on it's condition, but they admitted the other bodies were in various states of composition and were taking the find seriously.
Earlier in the day another set of remains were found by a cadaver, but they were sent for testing as it was unclear whether they were human.
Lt. Kevin Smith of the Nassau County Police Department called the find
"amazing."
He said: "It's just been very startling, all of it has been. It's just amazing that we're finding these things. Obviously, we have a lot of work to do."
These gruesome discoveries come on the first day that authorities moved the search from Suffolk County, where the eight bodies were found, into neighboring Nassau County, about five miles away.
The hunt prompted by the disappearance of 24-year-old Shannan Gilbert - an escort who advertised on Craigslist, who's body has yet to be found.
Authorities are working on the presumption that a single person is responsible for the women's killings because the four victims identified so far all advertised on similar websites.
"Collectively, we want to bring to justice this animal who has obviously taken the lives of a number of people," said Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano on Monday.
