MADNESS |
Bethany Storro received worldwide sympathy and more than $28,000 from charities and fundraisers after claiming a black woman had thrown a cup of acid in her face.
But her claims were a hoax and after a massive police hunt for her assailant she admitted that she had disfigured herself with drain cleaner.
A police affidavit revealed her self mutilation was apparently part of a suicide attempt.
Storro of Vancouver, Wash, said she was genuinely sorry for her actions and apologized to the African American Community for blaming a black woman.
She pled guilty to making a false statement to a public official but the theft charges were dropped when Storro returned the $28,000 in charity donations.
Storro must also repay roughly $4,000 of police overtime.
