HOW COULD THEY? |
Officers are baffled as to why someone would kill the petrified pooches who would have convulsed and foamed at the mouth before they passed away.
But their prime suspect is looking for an older lady who was seen wearing yellow gloves and behaving suspiciously in the area where five dogs were found Saturday, thee on Sunday and two more Monday morning.
The owner of one of them, Hercules was devastated at the loss.
"My dog is good, no one told me dog was bad," cried Berna Ramirez on Fox5.
Randy Lawrence, director of investigations for the Humane Society said: "The apparent poisonings appear to be "a case of intentional animal cruelty."
"We are asking the community to please report any leads or possible suspects,'' he said. "We take all cases of animal cruelty and neglect seriously, and we will continue to investigate all possibilities until we identify a perpetrator.''
Residents said dog poisoning has been an ongoing problem for years.
Suspect information, at this time, is sketchy at best.
Lawrence said: "The suspect has been described as an older Hispanic lady that was walking around with yellow dish-washing gloves that may have been giving dogs something.
"But that is just information we received from kids at a park so we're looking for any help we can get to try and narrow down who might be involved."
Anyone with information about the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477, or e-mail the agency at sdcrimestoppers.com. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
