UNDER SIEGE: STEVEN SEAGAL BECOMES BORDER GUARD

SWORN IN
ON GUARD
HE'S PLAYED his fair share of lawmen over the years, but now Hollywood hard man Steven Seagal has become a real life Sheriff's deputy.
The 59-year-old tough guy has now been sworn in as a Sheriff's Deputy and will go out on patrol along the Texas border, from the Rio Grande to El Paso on the lookout for people trying to sneak across the Mexican border.
County Sheriff Arvin West was quick to point out however that the martial arts expert who starred in the huge Hollywood blockbusters, 'Under Siege' and 'Above The Law' was there to do a job.
He told the Houston Chronicle: "He has a sincere passion for his country and he wants to do more to help. I think he will make a significant contribution to this office and to our community.
"It became very clear to me that Mr. Seagal is not in this for the celebrity or the publicity,"
His colleague Rusty Fleming added that officials had traveled to California to help complete the requisite paperwork and arranged for Seagal to come to Sierra Blanca for Monday's swearing-in ceremony and a short tour.
He explained: "He got really a taste of what we go through down here. We ran about 50 miles of the border and Deputy Seagal got a chance to meet the community and where he's going to be working."
"He understands this issue that we have down here on the border. His help with his training and what he can help show our deputies and what he can show us here, I think he'll make a tremendous contribution.'
Sheriff West said he expected Mr Seagal to report for duty in January and that the exact nature of his duties were still being worked out.
