THE SUSPECTED mastermind behind the Ohio Craigslist slaughter has a "caring heart" and was even a mentor to the teenager busted with him in connection to three grisly homicides. Richard 'Dick' Beasley, 52, a volunteer chaplain was arrested Nov. 16 with Brogan Rafferty, 16, for luring victims to their demise via job ads on Craigslist. The doomed men were told to bring all of their belongings because they would also be living on the farm. There never was any such farm. For Beasley's mom, well, it's all too much.

Carol Beasley said: "In my wildest dreams, I just couldn't imagine him harming someone. Richard tried to mentor him, get him into history and Brogan is a really nice kid."
Beasley has known Rafferty since the teen was 8-years-old. Carol Beasley said Richard tried to help him after his parents' divorce, acting as a surrogate big brother. The two would go fishing, play video games and deliver food to the needy. And maybe killed a few people along the way. ABC NEWS HAS MORE
