HOUSE OF HORRORS |
Greedy Dorothea Puente's case sent shock waves around the world when seven bodies were found behind her two-story Victorian home in which she rented rooms to the elderly and disabled.
The serial killer was known for giving her tenants gifts and home-cooked meals, but in the
early eighties authorities found she was in fact drugging them and stealing their money.
She served three years, but reopened the home on her release.
Cops became suspicious again after social worker, Judy Moise filed a missing persons report with Sacramento Police, when one of her cases Alvaro Montoya disappeared.
She had referred the 51-year-old mentally disabled man to the home.
It was then they made the grisly discovery after they started digging up her back garden - eventually finding seven bodies in her backyard.
Puente was given two life sentences in 1993 for three of the murders - the jury did not reach verdicts on six other counts.
She died of natural causes, aged 82, behind bars at the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla.
