The first cut may have been the deepest, but a SoCal mom who stabbed her boyfriend to death before dismembering his body and burying some of the remains in potted plants will now serve 26 to life in prison, prosecutors said.
Carmen Montenegro was convicted last month in the 2011 killing of 62-year-old Samuel Wiggins, according to the San Bernadino County DA's office.
The 54-year-old was arrested after detectives caught her pushing a trash can down the street with his remains inside, near their Ontario, Calif. home.
She had also buried Wiggin's head and arms in pot plants that were found in nearby Bell Gardens, while his legs and torso were found buried at a home in Ontario.
Deputy DA Erica Gallegos said they were pleased that the jury had seen the "heinous crime" for what it was, adding that "justice was served for the victim and his family.
