A CANCER stricken woman with "nothing to lose" stopped a bank robber in her tracks and held her down until cops could bust her.  

Helen Dunsford, 66, was waiting to be served at the Bank of America in Oakland Park, Fla, when a woman reached in her purse, said she had a gun and yelled for everyone to get on the ground.
But as other customers ducked, Dunsford dived into action, tackling the would be thief and holding her down until cops got there.

A VIOLENT senior may have been barking up the wrong tree in a backyard battle over cats and dogs in San Diego.

HEARTACHE AGAIN. This time in Chatanooga, Tenn. Hero cop Sgt. Timothy Chapin was murdered by a two-bit thug on the lam from Colorado Saturday. But before Chapin, 51, hit the ground he likely saved his partner Officer Brian Blumenberg's life.
“Obviously it wasn’t his day to die today,” said Pat Blumenberg, Blumenberg’s mother, choking back tears.
Blumenberg said Chapin, a 27-year department veteran nearing retirement, saved her son's life. According to cops, Chapin was shot and killed as he responded to a pawn shop robbery. A second officer, Lorin Johnston, 45, was wounded during the gunfight. He was treated and released.

A SICKENING video showing a man being tortured and beaten to death has led to one arrest and a frantic search for another man connected with the crime.
A disk handed into Spokane, WA cops: "depicts the young man bound and gagged with duct tape, being tormented with a knife for approximately 19 minutes."   
The man, who authorities are calling John Doe because he has not been identified, has distinctive clothing and rings that match a body found dumped in a wooded area on March 10.

COPS SAY NEW YORK PRISON ESCAPEES 'DANGEROUS'

COPS  have launched a desperate manhunt for two "dangerous" and possibly armed inmates who escaped from New York's Monroe County Jail.  Eddie R. Palmer, 35, and Joseph Lee Mitchell, 34 - who were cellmates at one time - worked loose one of the bars in their housing area and squeezed their way through to freedom.
Neither had been jailed for violent offenses but Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn said the men would be desperate to avoid detection and therefore should be considered "dangerous."
Once recaptured, the men will face additional charges of escaping incarceration - which will add five years to their sentences and therefore they pose a risk to the public.

Sgt. Sanford Rosenberg says two men in Dodgers clothing followed three men in Giants gear as they walked to their car after Thursday night's 2-1 Dodger victory.
Rosenberg says the attackers yelled slurs against the Giants and began kicking and punching the men.
One victim suffered a head injury and was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

At the advice of her therapist, Carr began volunteering at a local animal sanctuary, where she met the animal, to help her cope with depression.

HE thought it would be easy, just walk into the convenience store, pull out a gun and walk away with the takings. But Eric F Homen hadn't banked on Stephen Cornell, a have-a-go-hero with a prosthetic limb when he set out to rob JC Grill & Pizza in Salem, MA.

"I said, 'OK, I'll just wait,' and when he tries to come out of the store, I was going to jump him. He just came out so fast I tripped him, and he tripped me and I fell, and he fell."
