MEET FREDDIE YOUNG. Postal worker, lottery millionaire, hothead, killer. The 62-year-old Detroit man has been arrested in the vicious slaying of his daughter's Australian landlord.
Speaking for us all, Detroit homicide Lt. Dwane Blackmon said: "It didn't make any sense. I guess he just let his anger take over." Indeed, now Freddie has been arraigned for first-degree murder in the ridiculous murder of Greg McNicol, 45, who was shot to death May 7. McNicol had argued with a woman the Detroit News says is Freddie's daughter, who was about to be evicted.
Witnesses said Freddie then pulled up in his black Chevy Avalanche and fired one shot hitting McNicol. Then he drove away. Cops say Freddie has a "violent temper" and even being part of a $29 million lotto jackpot didn't put a smile on his face.
According to The News, the lottery win surprised residents at McNicol's building. They were devastated by the loss of the "very good man" who had bought the building, fixed it up and befriended them. Florida Benton said given his reported status as a millionaire and the rent dispute, she questioned the suspect's motives. "What kind of a man are you?" she asked.
