BASELINE KILLER? |
Wearing hats, wigs and masks Mark Goudeau, 46, is accused of snatching women off the street - some in broad daylight - and raping them.
If they resisted they were shot to death.
One survivor only lived because her assailant's gun misfired. He is already serving a 438-year prison sentence for September 2005 sexual assaults against two sisters - one of whom was six month pregnant at the time.
As they walked home from the park , he jumped them at gunpoint and held his pistol between her legs and made her beg for her baby's life. Goudeau was convicted of those rapes in 2007.
But now the so called "baseline killer" so named because the initial attacked took place near the city's Baseline Road stands accused of of more then 74 felony charges.
They include sexual assault on two teens, the murder of Georgia Thompson outside an apartment complex and the abduction and sexual assault on a mother and daughter.
DNA also linked him to the murder of young mom Sophia Nuñez, 37, who was found shot to death in her bathtub by her 8-year-old son.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Warren Granville will oversee proceeding which are expected to last the better part of a year.
