Oscar Pistorius jailed just 10 months in Reeva killing

PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA - Blade runner Oscar Pistorius has run out of track.
The South African sprinter has been sentenced to five years in prison for shooting his girlfriend to death on bloody Valentine's Day 2013.
Judge Thokozile Masipa ignored pleas for mercy from Pistorius' lawyer who said the runner would be become the bitch of prison rapists because of being a double-amputee who uses prosthetics to get around.

The bad news is, Pistorius, 27, could be out in just 10 months. The sentencing -- seen as very light -- is a might fall for the former hero. Pistorius gunned down his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, 29, killing the blonde beauty and maintained he thought she was an intruder. He was acquitted last month -- outraging South Africans and the victim's family. MORE FROM SKY NEWS

During Pistorius’ sentencing hearing, prosecutor Gerrie Nel asked Masipa to hit the runner with a 10 year prison sentence.
Defense attorney Barry Roux asked that Pistorius be sentenced to house arrest and community service.
And in a final Hail Mary aimed at keeping Pistorius out of prison, Roux asked Masipa to consider the South African principle of "ubuntu," which roughly translates as kindness towards others, in her sentencing.
Masipa decided the Steenkamps deserved some “ubuntu.”
