BIDDY BANDITS BEAT BANKS, STORES FOR $500GS

WE LOVE THIS ONE. Hats seem to have made a roaring comeback with everyone from royals to rock stars. So, it only makes sense that crooks are donning headgear too. America, meet the 'Mad Hatter Gang.' Who? The gang are a group of older women--at least one is in her 70s-- who wear a wild variety of hats as a disguise as steal cash and credit cards from distracted shoppers in the Detroit area.
Cops say the gang have been at it for more than a year and have stolen a whopping $500,000.
Lt. Luke Riley said that the kindly appearance of the elderly crooks is helping them pull off the caper. Shoppers, banks and retailers tend not
to suspect that the grandmotherly woman in a floppy white hat standing in front of them is a cold-hearted criminal.
"That's the reason they've been able to get away with it," Riley said, adding at least one financial institution was beaten for nearly $200,000. No rockin' chair for these biddy bandits.
